Monday 2nd March

Welcome to this week's blog spot.

Please remember that there is a Kingswood meeting at 3.30pm on Tuesday this week in the Hall.

HOMEWORK

Homework will start again this week.
Numeracy homework set by the Numeracy teacher.
Spellings will be given out and tested on Friday.

Island homework - week 5

You have made some friends on the island and decide to have a Party.
Design some invitations explaining the reasons for your party and giving details about what will happen. Write a letter to the local musicians to persuade them to provide the music.

WORLD MATH'S DAY

We are very excited and we are having a Numeracy morning on Wednesday across all ages of the school. We will be doing lots of activities throughout the morning. We have also joined a World Math's day competition and your child will be bringing home their own password and user name this week. This will allow them to compete with other children from across the world. They can even win prizes and can start practising for the big day straight away. Well done to the children in Mrs Harding's group that have played lots of games so far. Try and add to your totals. But don't forget to use tutpup too please.

LITERACY

The children made a great start to their topic of INSTRUCTIONS last week and so this week we will be building on our knowledge of how to write instructions for a given purpose. We will be spending time investigating and collecting IMPERATIVE VERBS to use when we write our own instructions. We will also be making sure we know the key features of instructions and can check for them in our own writing.

Alongside this we will be continuing our Spell Well activities as well as checking our Spelling homework. The sites below will be useful for keeping your spelling skills ticking over:

http://tutpup.com/ - don't forget you can even test your spellings on this fantastic site!

http://www.eastoftheweb.com/games/Eight1.html - a super game (just like the word game that my class play most weeks). Howmany words can you make?

http://www.readwritethink.org/materials/construct/index.html - How many words can you pop into the Word Bank?

NUMERACY

We are all doing very well with learning our number facts, times tables facts and division facts. With it being World Math's Day this week let's give ourselves an extra push!

In Mrs Harding's group this week we will be moving onto a new topic of looking at angles. We will be looking at angles in a right angle, in a straight line and round a point. We will be learning about calculating turns too. We will be finding out about protractors and how they measure angles too.

By the end of the week the children.

COULD be able to use a protractor to measure angles.

SHOULD be able to calculate angles in a straight line and round a point.

MUST know the names of the different types of angles - obtuse, acute and reflex.

Miss Robinson's group had a very busy week last week - the children all worked hard to learn how to find the important information in a word problem and then solve it. This week we will be moving on to review 2D shape and exploring AREA and PERIMETER. Remember Area is calculating the space inside a shape and perimeter is the outside of a shape.

By the end of the week the children:

MUST be able to find the perimeter and the area of a shape using squares and know how to record it accurately.

SHOULD be able to explain the difference between area and perimeter.

COULD be able to answer questions about area and perimeter.

And don't forget on Wednesday it's World Maths Day and so we have a whole morning to develop and practise our Maths skills - don't worry it's going to be a fun packed time!!!

In Mrs Bethell's Numeracy Group this week we will be working on rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100 and also on vertical addition. On Wednesday - World Maths Day, we will be completing a range of mathematical games and puzzles involving : time, capacity, money and compass points.

Please remember to continue learning your times tables and time facts also.

I must be able to round a number to the nearest 10 and add 2 numbers vertically.

I should be able to round a number to the nearest 10 or 100.

I could add 3 numbers vertically.

This week we will be learning about how different animals and insects are supported. The children will be given lots of different pictures and asked to sort them into different categories of arachnids, insects and molluscs.

Children could know all about exoskeletons and be able to present this information.
Children should know that insects/animals belong to different groups.
Children should be able to place different animals and insects into groups.

Children must know what a mollusc/arachnid/insect are.
