Monday 13th October
The percentages for this week for children who have a comment in their diary and have read are:
In Mrs Harding's class 88% of children have been heard read.
In Mrs Bethell's 54% have been heard read.
In Miss Robinson's 66% have been heard read.
We would really like to get those percentages up near 100% so whenever you hear your child read can you please remember to write a comment in their diary. Many thanks.
OPEN DAY
Please remember that we have an open day on Monday and feel free to have a browse in school between the hours of 9.30am and 2.30pm.
PARENT'S EVENINGS
You should have received a letter about parent's evenings in the last week. If not pop into school to find a copy.
WW2 TRIP
Thank you to everyone who has paid and sent the consent forms into school for the Air Raid shelters trip. There are only a few children who have not done this as the day is fast approaching!
SPANISH WEEK!
This week we have a RICH TASK week and the week will have a SPANISH theme. Some of our activities will have a Spanish link and we will be also reviewing all the different language that we have covered in the past. You will find lots of Spanish phrases in our Spanish blog this week. Below are a few Spanish websites for you to have a look at though.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryspanish/start_here/ - a great starting point for Spanish.
http://www.123teachme.com/learn_spanish/spanish_for_children this is a great website, which has lots of ‘clickable’ objects which help with pronunciation.
http://www.learn4good.com/kids/learning_spanish_online/free_lessons_for_children.htm some lovely interactive activities for the children, including colours and numbers.
LITERACY
This week we will be finishing the topic of recounts. The children will have the opportunity to write their own newspaper article about a story form the war.
http://www.headlinehistory.co.uk/swf/main_launcher.htm
We will also be learning about adjectives.
http://www.childrensuniversity.manchester.ac.uk/interactives/literacy/wordclasses/adjectives.asp - become an adjective detective!
http://www.learnatglobal.com/assets/applets/grammar.swf - The Grammar Show strikes again - this time teaching you all about adjectives!
Every week we have been busy developing our reading comprehension skills. Check out the sites below to practise:
http://www.innovationslearning.co.uk/subjects/english/activities/literature_comp/lit_comp_home.htm
http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/revision/engindex.html - choose a level and have a go!
NUMERACY
Keep your times tables skills sharp - Refresh your memory with the games below:

By the end of the week the children:
COULD be able to convert between different units of measure such as km/m/cm.
SHOULD be able to suggest suitable units of measure and estimate and measure length.
MUST know how to calculate the area of a rectangle using length x breadth.

In Miss Robinson's group we will be continuing our work on 2D shape. This week we will be moving on to explore regular and irregular polygons as well as consolidating our learning from last week about quadrilaterals adn the properties of shape.
By the end of the week the children:
MUST know the names of all 2D shapes and be able to recognise them.
SHOULD know what a polygon is and what a regular and irregular shape is.
COULD be able to know the names and characteristics of all 2D shapes and types of triangles .
Keep using the games from last week as well as a couple of new ones below:
http://nwlg.org/pages/resources/ma_num/swf/shapeGate001.html - look at the shape and answer the questions correctly to send it to it's right place
http://www.mathszone.co.uk/ - go on. Click on KS1/KS2 then find SHAPE and have a go at as many games as you feel like...
http://www.mathplayground.com/Matching_Shapes.html - WOW! Want a real challenge then try to match all the polygons correctly!
Mrs Bethell's Maths
This week we are continuing our shape work - moving onto symmetry and naming the 3D shapes. We are also continuing to learn our times tables - 2,3,5 and 10 and then moving onto the 3, 4 and 6 for those who are able to.
To draw polygons and classify them by identifying their properties, including their line of symmetry
To visualise 3-D objects from 2-D drawings; make nets of common solids
To relate 2-D shapes and 3-D solids to drawings of them; describe, visualise, classify, draw and make the shapes
To derive and recall multiplication facts for the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 times-tables and the corresponding division facts; recognise multiples of 2, 5 or 10 up to 1000
To derive and recall all addition and subtraction facts for each number to 20, sums and differences of multiples of 10 and number pairs that total 100
