Monday 20th October
Gosh the end of a very busy term this week. All the children are settled into their classes and their new routines especially the Year 3 who have joined us in the Juniors.
We have an extremely busy week in store with three parent's evenings.
The days are:
Monday and Tuesday from 3.30pm until 5.00pm.
Thursday from 1.30pm until 5.00pm.
You should have received a time/appointment for your child by the end of last week. If you did not manage to send a slip back then the teachers have allocated a spare time for you.
Please remember that on Friday all the Year 4 are out on the Air raid shelters trip. They are allowed to wear their own clothes and will need a packed lunch. Please remember that we may be late and might get back at around 3.30pm traffic permitting. I am sure that we will have a great time.
DON'T FORGET YEAR THREE PARENTS THE CHILDREN ARE OUT ON THE TRIP THE FIRST DAY BACK. SPREAD THE WORD!
We will not be sending out homework this week with the parent's interviews and being out on the trip. This provides an extra bit of time for reading with your child, learning timetables and high frequency words which are being tested before the half term.
LITERACYThis week in Literacy we will be learning about poetry. We will be having a look at all different poems and will be having a go at writing some poems ourselves.
To get a head start on poetry please look at:

Here are a few sites for spelling. Every week the children really enjoy playing a game called spellwell. We are going to be using some of the new boards to play that the children have made themselves last week.

NUMERACY
In Mrs Harding's group the children will be continuing to work with finding the area and perimeter of 2D shapes. We will be starting to learn about tally charts to collect data.
By the end of the week the children:
COULD be able to interpret, use and make tally charts.
COULD be able to find the area and perimeter of shapes and work out dimensions from given areas and perimeters.
SHOULD be able to find the perimeter and the area.
MUST be able to calculate finding the perimeter by adding up the sides.
This week Miss Robinson's group will be finishing off their topic on 2D SHAPE. We will be exploring triangles, angles and reflective symmetry.
By the end of the week the children
must be able to identify lines of symmetry in shapes and complete symmetrical shapes and patterns.
should be able to recognise and name the different types of triangles - right-angled, equilateral, isoceles and scalene.
could be able to recognise and name the different types of angles - right-angles, obtuse and acute.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/starship/maths/calamity.shtml - can you save the Princess?
http://www.crickweb.co.uk/assets/resources/flash.php?&file=triangles - can you sort the triangles?
http://www.hittingthetarget.com/hittingthetarget.php - learn about angles - play the football, tennis and cricket games!

Mrs Bethell's Numeracy
This week we are continuing with 3D shape but will also be solving number problems and word problems too.
To represent the information in a puzzle or problem using numbers, images or diagrams; use these to find a solution and present it in context, where appropriate using £.p notation or units of measure
To se knowledge of number operations and corresponding inverses, including doubling and halving, to estimate and check calculations
To relate 2-D shapes and 3-D solids to drawings of them; describe, visualise, classify, draw and make the shapes
To report solutions to puzzles and problems, giving explanations and reasoning orally and in writing, using diagrams and symbols
To use knowledge of rounding, number operations and inverses to estimate and check calculations
http://www.mathplayground.com/GrandSlamMath1.html - a game of baseball by solving word problems – tens and units.
http://www.mathplayground.com/multiples.html - practice x tables, a game of catching pumpkins which are multiples of a target number.
http://www.crickweb.co.uk/assets/resources/flash.php?&file=ncmenu – comparing numbers using <>
http://www.crickweb.co.uk/assets/resources/flash.php?&file=crazyc – problem solving – start with a number and try to reach the target number given.
http://www.crickweb.co.uk/assets/resources/flash.php?&file=MatchingPairs3Dshape – play a pairs game to match the 3D shapes against the clock.
http://www.primaryresources.co.uk/online/longshape3d.html - name the 3D shape in the picture.
Children MUST be able to name 3D shapes
Children SHOULD be able to solve simple number problems
Children COULD solve word problems
SCIENCE
In our Science curriculum on Electricity we are going to be varying the current – adding more batteries/fewer bulbs etc.How can you make a bulb go dimmer?
How can you make it brighter?
What happens when you add more bulbs?

MUSIC
The children are really enjoying learning the war songs in class and some of their favourites are Run rabbit run.....White cliffs of Dover..... etc. Listen out for them humming the popular old favourites.
That's all about all for this term. We hope you have a great week off and we will see you all back at school bright eyed and bushy tailed on Monday 3rd November.
