Monday 23rd March
HOMEWORK
It was sad to see the final week of the islands homework as the children have really enjoyed doing it. Homework will change for the next few weeks before we start the next project. The new homework this week will be talking. It has been proved that talking about a topic can really improve the children's writing too. Please make sure that you put a comment in their diaries so that they have proof that they have done it. On Monday the children should bring home a sheet with the talking homework on.
Talking homework sheet:
Your homework this week is a talking homework. Talking can really help with writing. You need to speak to an adult and then get a message in your diary to say that you have done this. The topics this week are:
How a DVD player works....... or
How a Wii works.........
The children will still get spellings to learn and Numeracy from their Math's teacher.
GOLDEN TIME
Golden time on Thursday will now centre around bringing in drawing equipment, board games or book/magazines to read. Please do not send toys as some are getting lost.
LITERACY
In Literacy this week we are continuing to learn about EXPLANATIONS. The children are quite familiar with the layout and organisation of an explanation text and so this week we will be looking at more examples and in particular how paragraphs can make a piece of information clear.
Alongside this the children will also be learning about compound words. This means that when words are made up of separate words. Below are some different games to try:

In Mrs Harding's group this week we will be reviewing quite a few topics such as number equations, inverse operations, using brackets in numbers and reflective/rotational symmetry. The children have been enjoying their lap top time using Mathletics and Tutpup too.

Check out the SHAPE section on http://www.mathszone.co.uk/ too. Lots of games to play to practise your skills and understanding of co-ordinates and direction!
As well as this we will be continuing to practice our skills in answering written questions. We will be doing an assessment on Monday and then spending time going through problem areas.
Mrs Bethell’s Group this week are continuing with our measurement work and focusing on weight, at the start of the week. We are concentrating on reading scale and balancing objects.
Please remember to learn : 1,000g = 1 kilogram
500g = ½ kilogram
250g = ¼ kilogram
750g = ¾ kilogram
We will also be multiplying numbers by 10 and 100 and adding 2 numbers together using the column method of addition.
