Monday 30th of June

Wow! The weeks are passing really fast and the children are getting excited about Sport's day on July 8th and the trip to Gulliver's world.

Year Three children should have come home with their Holy Communion photograph and of course the group photograph. Please send the orders back by Friday so the photographer can process the order in good time for the end of term Thank you.

We are approaching a very sad time on Friday as Mr Slavin is leaving our school as Miss Robinson is coming back full time. We really thank Mr Slavin for the way he has fitted in and the way he has taught the children. Both the children and the staff will be sorry to see him go and we really wish him well in the future.

The open day at school was very successful and there were lots of comments in the visitor's book in the office afterwards. Some of the verbal comments were......

A fantastic school....

Lovely atmosphere....

So welcoming.....

Amazing key board skills....sounded excellent...

We are very proud of our children and our school. Throughout the week all the children did lots of activities related to Spain and Spanish. The children really enjoyed the Flamenco dancing and thank you to every one who has supported the book fayre this week. All the commission always goes to pay for new resources for the children such as new books. Thank you to anyone who bought a book for their class too from the wish lists made available.

Key Board concert from the Year Three

On Thursday the 17th of July at 9.00am there will be a short concert put on by the Year Three. They will be showing you all some of the skills that they have learnt.

Sport's Day

This coming week we hope to get busy with our preparations for Sport's day on July 8th. We are going to put the children into three teams and these teams are called:Alban, Columba and Bede. The children will be sorted into age related races and then the different teams compete against each other on the day. The children will be given points from the races as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd stickers. The children absolutely love Sport's day and we hope that it will go ahead again this year after the wash out of last year.

Please make sure that you child has the correct size pumps and provide them with a white tee shirt and school blue shorts. Also sending in suntan lotion, named water bottles and a hat is a good idea too as I am sure we are going to be blessed with some more sunshine!

Best Work:

The children will be choosing some special work from their books that will be brought home at the end of the year so that you can see the standard of work that they are completing at the end of this academic year. The children always love looking through all their books to find suitable pieces and are always amazed at how much they have come on throughout the year.

DT

All the classes are busy with their DT projects such as designing their own idea for a useful object, making bird boxes and practising their sewing expertise. Please feel free to come and see the display in Mrs Harding's room on bird boxes, they are amazing!

Finally here are a few sites to keep the children busy as we come to the final weeks of the summer.

http://www.artsconnected.org/toolkit/ - for the budding artist

http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/animals/planetearth/ - super information on animals.

Monday 23rd June

Welcome to this week's blog. It will be pretty short as all the staff have been really busy and at school until Saturday afternoon with the Year Three making their First Holy Communion.

What a wonderful day despite the pouring rain! The Year Three had a lovely day on Saturday at their Holy Communion and were very well behaved especially when waiting for their photographs to be taken. All the children looked wonderful and did very well with their readings. We all hope that you enjoyed the rest of the day with your family.

Please remember that St Joseph's children's Mass starts at 10.30 every Sunday. We must say a big thank you to all the people who walked up to church. Thank you to the Year Four parents who came in to set up the hall on Friday afternoon as it looked beautiful.

On Thursday we are having an open day and parents old and new are very welcome to drop in and have a look around beween 9.30am and 2.30pm.

SPANISH WEEK!

This week we have a RICH TASK week and the week will have a SPANISH theme. All are activities will have a Spanish link and we will be also reviewing all the different language that we have covered so far.

On Friday each of the classes will have a Flamenco dance lesson and there is a three pounds charge as this is so expensive. On Friday the children will be allowed to dress up in the colours of the Spanish flag which are RED AND YELLOW.

Some of the topics we are doing are about the Spanish Armada, Sir Francis Drake, traditional Spanish dress, Flamenco dancing, the geography of Spain and lots lots more. If you have any objects, clothing, information or expertise on the country of Spain please contact us or send it in. We would like lots of holiday brochures too. Thank you.

Monday 16th June

We had a lovely surprise last week when Miss Robinson started back in school. To help with her recovery there will be a part time integration of her job so she will not be in every day. Mr Slavin will be taking Miss Robinson's class when she is not in school. We welcome back Miss Robinson and we are so grateful to Mr Slavin for providing an excellent education for the class and the rest of Three and Four children. We have really enjoyed and appreciated him in our team for the last six months.

We had a very busy week last week with preparing our Year 3 children for receiving their First Holy Communion, and that continues this week. This is a really important time for them which culminates in them receiving the Sacrament this Saturday morning. The mass in church will be followed by the children sharing a meal together back at school. We know that it will be a very special day for them and you.

Please remember that we are walking up to church on Wednesday and Friday morning. We will be walking back from church around 10.30am on the Friday. We could do with a lot of help to do this. Please fill in the letter or let us know. Thank you.

On Wednesday and Friday we will be leaving school at 9.00am. The Away day is Wednesday so we will stay up at church and the parish centre all day. There will be a short service at 2.30pm at St Joseph's church and you will be able to collect the children afterwards. Please be aware that there is a creche at school for other siblings. On Wednesday the children will have a shared lunch and they will have already decided amongst themselves what food they are going to bring in.

We wish all the First Holy Communicants well and will think of them all this week in our prayers.

Last week we had the Cheshire Police come in and talk to us about bullying. The children watched a very detailed PowerPoint about all different types of bullying and what to do if you are being bullied. The Police also discussed their role with physical aggression in school. The children found the talk really interesting and informative and could begin to talk a lot about bullying as a result.

In between the practices and the days out the children will be doing some Maths and Literacy as normal.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week we will be carrying on with play scripts. The children have already started this topic and are going to learn more and have a go at editing their first piece of written work.
